…celebrating Chief (Dr.) M.A. Majekodunmi’s ideal on healthcare and education & St. Nicholas at 50

Lagos, Nigeria – 7th August 2019: Medical experts from far and wide will speak about the healthcare system in the nation and the task ahead of us in fostering an assessable and functional national health insurance scheme 

The experts intend to identify Universal Health coverage as a National challenge at this year’s ‘August Event’ jointly organised by Chief (Dr.) Moses Adekoyejo Majekodunmi Foundation (M.A. Majekodunmi Foundation) and St. Nicholas Hospital, which is in celebration of the late Chief (Dr.) Moses Adekoyejo Majekodunmi’s passion for growth and development in healthcare and education.

The August event 2019, held biannually, focuses on the work of the Majekodunmi Foundation and its corporate social responsibility initiatives in healthcare and education. It also sensitises participants to cutting-edge advances in Medicare with the St. Nicholas Hospital lecture series. With this in mind, the event will also celebrate the 50th anniversary of St. Nicholas Hospital.

This year’s event will be graced by high-profile individuals such as His Royal Majesty, Oba Adedotun Aremu Gbadebo, The Alake of Egbaland who will be the chairman of the event; as well as distinguished personalities in the healthcare sector like the Consultant Physician/Nephrologist, Clinical Director of St. Nicholas Hospital, Dr. Ebun Bamgboye who will deliver the keynote address, and the Zonal Co-ordinator of NHIS, Mr. Olufemi Akingbade  and the former Commissioner of Health, Lagos State, Dr. Jide Idris, among others.

Chairman, M.A. Majekodunmi Foundation, Chief (Arc.) Olufemi Majekodunmi said: “Nothing is as important as providing random acts of kindness to individuals in need; we are in a society where basic healthcare and education is a luxury for most people; the August Event 2019 will provide an avenue, where issues on universal healthcare coverage will be laid bare and answers will hopefully emerge for a greater Nigeria; as a Foundation we strive to make a difference in life and living”      

Chairman, The August Event Planning Committee, Dr. Ebun Bamgboye said: “ At this August Event 2019, we have brought together distinguished and seasoned medical experts from home and abroad to tackle this topical issue of Universal Health coverage and the Role of a Functional Health Insurance Scheme; we are confident that with the panel discussions in place and the Continuous Medical Education lectures lined up; plus a variety of other elements to whet our individual appetites, this event promises to be engaging and enlightening; Our longstanding partnership with the Majekodunmi Foundation to host the ‘August Event’ is a tribute to the late Chief Majekodunmi whose contributions to the growth of the Nigerian healthcare sector have outlived him. St. Nicholas Hospital is credited with almost 300 kidney transplants and is reputedly the first private hospital with a Medical Oncology clinic. We owe all of these achievements to the legacy of late Chief Majekodunmi who founded St. Nicholas Hospital 50 years ago”
